Paul Volpe Promises He'll Win, Goes on to Do Just That

To say that Paul Volpe is a skilled poker player is probably a major understatement at this point, but to imagine that he's something of a poker prophet too...is obviously a long-shot. Still, the feat he pulled off at the 2016 WSOP
's $1,500 Six-Max 8-game (#15) event was quite prophetic: during the game he tweeted out several times that he was "gonna win", and that's exactly what he ended up doing, self-fulfilling that prediction. He finished Day 1 of the tournament with some 41.4k chips, his stack quite a bit bigger than the average. Even then, he already "knew" he was going to win and he made it known to others too. He repeated his prediction when he made the money and then when only 11 players were left standing. In the end, he grabbed the gold and said that he felt "amazing" about it.

Indeed, Volpe had missed plenty of opportunities to take down his second WSOP gold over the years, so pocketing this one did feel a bit like brushing the monkey off his back. His first gold bracelet came back in 2014, when he defeated Daniel Negreanu heads-up to pocket the title and the top prize of the $10k NL 2-7 Single Draw Championship event. Everything accounted for, Volpe now has more than $4.9 million in live tournament earnings. This latest cash of his tipped the scale at $149.9k. He survived a starting field of 491 players to get to it.
Last year, despite not winning any bracelets, he finished 7th in the WSOP Player of the Year race, so he's always up there and always a good bet for another piece of bling...
