2016 EPT Grand Final - Day 3 Report

The third day of the European Poker Tour's Monte Carlo Grand Final saw just 196 of the initial 1,098 players return to the tables. The stakes were high on day 3, as it would be decided who would go home empty-handed and who wouldn't. Set for 160th place, the money-bubble was sure to burst and indeed it did at the end of the second level. The min-cash in the event was €8.89k. The dubious honor of bubble-boy-hood went to Jinfeng Huo, who bit the dust in 160th place at the hands of Aaron Gustavson. The flop was reading K,7,2 all hearts, and Huo pushed all-in with a Kd, 2d. At that point though, Gustavson had a made hand with his 6h, 4h, so he made the call. The turn and the river were the 7s and the 10h respectively, so Huo's fate was sealed.

Another player who bit the dust shortly before Huo (in fact just one spot ahead of him) was John Juanda. He picked up an A,K and he trusted his tournament life to it, only to earn a call from Juan Etcheverry, who had pocket rockets. Mike Watson hit the rail before the money-bubble too. Salvatore Bonavena and Ilan Boujenah went home empty-handed as well.
With the money-bubble out of the way, the action sped up and players began busting out left and right. It was during this stage that Max Silver and Jake Cody were bounced with a min-cash. Dimitar Danchev was also eliminated. Vanessa Selbst then sent Erik Seidel packing too.
As the field played down to 74 players, Poland's Marcin Chmielewski built the largest stack: he had 1.31 million chips bagged.
