Poker points races (also known as rake races) carry excellent value for players, because they reward them for something that they do at the table regardless of whether or not they take part in a promotion: they pay rake. The $65k points race is such a promotion. It may be called a points race, but – since those points are awarded in a directly proportional manner with the rake generated by players through real money play – one may as well call it a rake race. Poker points can be earned through tournament play as well, but cash games produce these points at a faster rate.
