Best WSOP Payout Structure, Ever!

It seems like each year that the WSOP comes around there is a reason why this is the best WSOP ever; maybe it's huge numbers, more games than ever, a new final table format; or maybe as is the case this year, it's the most attractive payout structure yet seen at a World Series of Poker, or in Jack Effel's words, "I think this is a poker player's dream payout". The World Series of Poker tournament director went on to comment that, "the payouts look really good this year". Effel has made it his work since joining the WSOP team in 2005 to make the payout structure the best that it can possibly be and now he feels that he's finally done it, with the help of his old university professor Dr Adam Schwartz, and some very serious sounding mathematical theory.

One of the problems with payout structures seen in the past is enormous jumps between single positions; this is a problem that the new system aims to rectify. For example had the new system been in place in the 2008 final, there would have been 12 millionaire finishers rather than eight and only slightly to the detriment of the first place prize which would have been $8.7 million instead of the $9.1 million that Peter Eastgate walked away with. All in all the new system will see most players doing better off out of it.

The details of exactly how the payout structure will be organised will become apparent as the number of entrants and the prize pool become concrete, however if Effel's excitement is anything to go by, Main Event entrants this year may be in for a very pleasant surprise.
