PokerStars’ Battle of the Planets is the biggest, most comprehensive, most advantageous leaderboard promotion to be found on line today: it’s simply out of this world! The fact is that many on line poker sites run leaderboard promotions, but you would hard pushed to find amongst any of the on line poker sites a leaderboard promotion that was as thorough, well thought out, and beneficial at the Battle of the Planets at PokerStars! If you like to play holdem in a sit & go format, the Battle of the Planets is the leaderboard promotion for you.
Members who play holdem in sit & go tournaments at PokerStars are all eligible to take part in the Battle of the Planets and due to the structure of the promotion, every-one has an excellent chance of doing well in it. The PokerStars community is divided into 8 Planet Divisions, from the smallest, Mercury, all the way to the biggest, Jupiter. In other words there are separate leaderboards depending on the stake level you play at; but unlike at most on line poker sites, who will offer 3 buy-in levels, here there are 8! The lowest buy-in division is Mercury for players at the $1 - $2.99 level; then there’s Mars at $3 - $4.99; then Venus at $5 - $9.99, and so on, until you get to Jupiter at $300 plus. That’s not all however; within each planet division there is a low orbit, and a high orbit leaderboard. The orbit represents how much you play. In the Low Orbit leaderboards players will play blocks of 20 tournaments; in each weekly leaderboard you can play five blocks of 20 tournaments, and only the best of these blocks will count as your leaderboard points. The High Orbit leaderboard is for players who play more frequently – they play in blocks of 100 and there is no limit to the number of blocks played in a week; again only your best block goes towards the leaderboard.
The prize pool for each division is divided between the orbit leaderboards, and of course the prize pool increases with the size of the Division. The Mercury Prize Pool is a total of $3,000, whilst the Jupiter Total Division Prize Pool is $10,000. In addition to the leaderboard cash payment however, PokerStars also invites the top 10 finishers in each leaderboard to play against each other in a monthly Battle of the Planets $50,000 tournament!
