Poker After Dark returns in 2010

Posted by: James Carter - Mon, 2010-01-04 05:59

The popular Poker After Dark series is back with its 6th season this January, with plenty of the already known team of professional players, and a whole bunch of new faces that are at least as interesting as the seasoned guys, itching to prove themselves at the poker tournament or cash game tables.
Commentary will once again be provided by Ali Nejad and the host of the online poker show will be a returning face as well: Leeann Tweeden, who shall be back for her third Poker After Dark season. Season 6 will be broken up into 2 parts: the first 7 parts will follow the traditional format (the 6-handed single table freezout one). The second part will feature six episodes of cash games at various buy-in levels. This part of the show will take up about two weeks of actual air-time.

Because filming has already concluded, the producers already know what they’re about to serve up to the public. They say there will be plenty of huge swings, tons of laughs, first timers and just about everything that makes a poker show interesting. The first episode of the show airs today, January 4th, and it will be one dedicated to the commentators. Ali Nejad, HSP’s Gabe Kaplan and Joe Sebok will be the featured faces, together with Kara Scott, Kaplan’s new HSP “partner in crime”. Another episode will focus on players with interesting nicknames. Annette “The Huntress Obrestad (I always thought her online poker moniker was “annette15”, no idea where this one came from), Phil “the Poker Brat” Hellmuth, Mike “the Mouth” Matusow and Antonio “the Magician” Esfandiari will take part in this one among others of course.

Online poker qualifiers won’t be side-lined either. James Ashby from the US, Craig Ivey from Down Under and Jens Woertmann from Germany will do battle with Phil Hellmuth and Chris Ferguson, in a poker tournament which may yield the fist ever amateur win at Poker After Dark.

The first cash game episode features a minimum buy-in of $50k. The second one has a $100k minimum and the third one a $150k one.
“Charity in Mind” is the final episode of the season. It will provide details on charity work performed by Jennifer Harman, Andy Bloch, Chris Ferguson and Howard Lederer.
