Qualify Online to the European Poker Tour 2014 – EPT 11 London Stop

Again second on the EPT 11’s schedule, the EPT London Poker Festival took place between October 8 and 18 in the heart of London, at the Grand Connaught Rooms. The stop once again co-opted the UKIPT’s Main Event to generate additional interest and it was indeed successful in accomplishing just that. The Grand Final of the UKIPT was the opening event of the Series and it saw 1,089 players belly up to its tables. The prize-pool was through the roof as well: it tipped the scales at $1.19 million.
The winner of the UKIPT Grand Final, Brett Angell, was rewarded with $215.2k – not a bad haul at all in what essentially amounted to a European Poker Tour opening act.

The highlight of the stop was the Main Event of course, and this year, it saw a bit of a welcome tweak: the buy-in was reduced to $6,830, and thanks to that, no fewer than 675 players thought it worth-while to buy in. The bigger starting field meant a bigger prize-pool of course, which resulted in a £499.7k top prize, which landed in possession of Germany’s Sebastian Pauli. Kevin MacPhee finished second, his share of the prize-pool a still-impressive £308.5k. Everything accounted for though, in the end the first-place prize-money still fell short of the 2013 mark of £560k.

The Main Sponsor of the EPT, PokerStars, once again made it possible for their players to buy into the European Poker Tour 2014 London Main Event through their site. Online qualifiers and sub-qualifiers ran for the Main Event for weeks/months, and there were indeed quite a number of players sent to the event by PokerStars. Obviously, winners of PokerStars packages had their travel expenses covered as well.

Always one of the highest-profile stops of the EPT season, the EPT London did not disappoint in any way in 2014 either.
