Online action: Ashton Griffin keeps rolling

The nosebleed online poker action gathered some momentum last week, although it was still far off the pace that had been set by mystery player “martonas” a few weeks ago, who has since faded away and left the high stakes tables. Still, the action was hot compared to the weeks following martonas’ departure, and the usual “delinquents” were at it again.
While Ilari Sahamies did give back some of his winnings accumulated over the last few weeks, another player riding a hot streak remained unfazed. Ashton Griffin continued to punish his opponents, adding a further $600k boost to his already bloated bankroll.
David Benyamine joined him in the winners’ circle last week too, picking up $430,000, mainly from Sahamies, at the mixed-limit Holdem tables.
Having pocketed his fair share of winnings during the previous week, Sahamies sat down with Benyamine at a $2,000/$4,000 Limit Holdem/$500/$1,000 NL Holdem table, for a 600-hand session. Eventually that ended up costing the Finn $387,000, money which he dropped through two huge (over $200,000) pots.
The first of these pots saw the money go all-in on the turn of a board which featured Ac,7d,4d,9h. Ziiggy had 9,7 in his pocket for a two pair but Benyamine’s A, had him well covered. The 10 on the river altered nothing and the $292,000 pot was promptly shipped the Frenchman’s way.
The other massive pot involving the two players was a $206,000 one. This time, the two saw the river before pushing it all-in on a board of 10s,2c,2h,5s,Qs. Sahamies had 5d, 8d and Benyamine showed Ks, 8s for the K-high spade flush and the win.

In the meantime, Ashton Griffin kept up his winning ways at the $100/$200 and $200/$400 PLO tables. He registered a $690,000 profit, around half of which came from the above mentioned tables. It wasn’t all smooth sailing for Griffin though as he dropped a few pretty big pots too, one of them to player “FakeMonies” who relieved him of a $122,000 pot.
On this hand, the money went all-in on a flop of 10h,10s,4h, and as a third player got out of the way, FakeMonies turned over A,K,K,9 for the two pair. Griffin’s Jh,9h, 8 ,7 did give him a flush draw as well as a backdoor straight one, but the board failed to come through for him and the pot went to his opponent.

Griffin bounced back later though and promptly lifted a $108,000 pot off Ilari Sahamies to make up for the losses.

The $500/$1,000 NL Holdem tables yielded their fair share of action too. Patrik Antonius took on his durrrr challenge rival, Tom Dwan, Di Dang, Phil Ivey, David Eldar and player “kingsofcards”. The Finn eventually walked away from the table with the largest profit, having taken a $561,000 pot off Dwan. Dwan did fight back later though and took a monster pot from the Finn, regaining about $330k, but that still left Antonius with a healthy profit.
Apparently, when he’s losing, Ilari Sahamies likes to make it big and proper. After bleeding humongous amounts of money through the week, the young Finn decided to try to make up for it through coin-flips. The Sahamies coin-flip consists in both involved parties shoving all-in before the flop and seeing what becomes of their hand.
This time, Phil Ivey was the one who joined Sahamies in flipping for it and walked away with a $835,000 profit at the end of it all.
