Online poker report: Cole South keeps rolling

The month of holidays, a traditionally slow period for online poker has barely started, but already millions of dollars have been wagered at Full Tilt Poker’s nosebleed tables. The PLO action has yielded several big winners and losers this week. Ashton Griffin was the biggest winner, having pocketed around $1 million since the start of August. Cole South, who’d had some terrific times around the end of last month, kept up his winning ways and took down around half a million dollars in August so far.
Gus Hansen, Phil Galfond and Ilari Sahamies were the biggest contributors to Griffin’s and South’s winnings, as they began the month in the red.

Much of Ashton’s winnings came at the $200/$400 PLO tables, at the expense of Gus Hansen. One of the biggest pots “theASHMAN103” managed to collect was a 3-handed one, between himself, Hansen and player “luckexpress10”. The fireworks started when Griffin raised to $1,610 from the button. The third player called and the Great Dane made it $6,650 from the BB. After the flop, which fell 6c,2d,8d, the action was checked to Griffin who took advantage of his position and fired out a pot size bet of $20,160.
Luckexpress10 was quick to get out of the way, but Hansen decided to stand his ground and defend his BB. He made the call, and after a 6h came on the turn, he took over by shoving all-in. Unfortunately for him, Griffin had the goods and he made the call tabling 10,10, 6, 2 for the full house. Hansen had A,A,10,8 and as the river fell 7h, the pot was shipped to theASHMAN103.

A little later, Griffin lifted another huge pot off the Great Dane, this time a $139,365 one. This time, it was Griffin who shoved all-in, holding two pairs against Hansen’s draws.

The other big winner of the week, Cole South, hammered away at Ilari Sahamies at the $200/$400 PLO tables. One pot that he took off the Finn was a $108,000 one. The hand began with South making a $800 bet and Sahamies raising that to $2,400. South made the call and the flop fell Jc,7s,Ac, prompting the Finn to fire out a $4,800 bet. This time around South raised him though, to $13,200. Not the one to be outdone, Ziiggy quickly made it $44,800. When South re-raised that too, “Ziigmund” shoved his final $51,000 in the middle. Sahamies had top pair and a flush draw against South’s straight- and higher flush draws. The 5c which fell on the river filled South’s flush and the pot was shipped to him.

Another pot that he took off Sahamies a few hands later was a $153,000 one. This hand saw South hit a straight on the river to subject the Finn’s faltering bankroll to further pressure.

Phil Ivey was warming up to his WSOP final table performance at the $300/$600 PLO tables, where he took a $175,869 pot off Rafi Amit. Amit later recovered from the loss by hitting Di Dang for $210,000.
