Poker industry in shock: PokerListings founder shot dead

The entire poker industry mourns the loss of one of its better known personalities: Andreas Oscarsson was the founder of PokerListings, a top poker information, news and blog site most online players know like the back of their hands. Born in Trollhattan, Sweden, but a US resident, Oscarsson was on a holiday with his 2-year old son, visiting his home town. He was shot dead in his bed when the murderer broke in and found him sleeping there. Authorities can only speculate about the motive of the attack, as well as about its circumstances as there was no apparent reason for anyone to attack the 36 year old.

According to the local media, the police have conducted a forensics investigation and they have questioned Oscarsson’s relatives as well as neighbors, but no motive for the attack was yet pinpointed. The conclusion of the investigation was that a murder had indeed taken place, with its motives unclear.
Oscarsson’s son was reportedly in the room when the shooting occurred. Oscarsson’s wife travelled to Sweden in order to pick the child up.

Oscarsson was a brilliant internet marketing mind, always thinking out of the box and always on the lookout for new business opportunities. He established Pokerlistings with a clear goal: to turn it into a globally recognized brand. He left the operations side of the company just after the birth of his son, and he took on an advisory role.

Pokerlistings confirmed the sad news in a statement published on the site on Aug 5th, 2009.
