WSOP November Nine - McKeehen in Driver's Seat

Joe McKeehen finished the summer leg of the
WSOP's Main Event in dominant fashion and today, as the November Nine showdown kicked off, he picked up right where he'd left off. Having by far the largest stack certainly helped him, but one has to give him credit for perfectly executing the strategy he'd cooked up during the break. He carried his fair share of the burden: he eliminated no fewer than 3 players. After some 5 and a half hours of back-and-forth, 6 players remained in contention, who will return for day 2 to play down to the final 3.
The first one to bid goodbye to the final table was Patrick Chan, who started the final table as one of the short-stacks, albeit not the shortest one. On the second hand of the day, Chan picked up Ks, Qc, which he thought good enough to call McKeehen's all-in move from the button. It turned out McKeehen had Ad, 4h, and since nothing connected with the board, his high-card won.

Federico Butteroni was bounced next, after he put everything on the line with an Ah,Jc against McKeehen's As,Ks. Butteroni had survived a shove before (it was his second hand of the day, the first one also a shove) but this time, it wasn't to be: the board ran out all blanks again and he was done.
The third and last victim of the day was 72-year old Pierre Neuville, who got all his chips into the middle with Ac,Kc. McKeehen called him, with Jh, 6h no less only to make a heart flush on the river.
