Another Fixed Limit poker session got underway at the Crown Casino in Melbourne, not long after event #3 had concluded. Event #4 saw 140 hopefuls belly up to the tables. Grant Levy was there as well as Sam Khouiss, Tony Dunst and Mel Judah, the winner of the previous event, who had gotten up from the table only a few hours earlier.
Annette Obrestad, who was apparently playing her first live Fixed Limit Holdem tournament took a pretty good start, but was eventually sent to the rail well before the money bubble.
Other notable eliminations were those of Sorel Mizzi, Tony Dunst and Jamie Pickering. Michael Vartan got all his money into the pot on an A,K, but his opponent had 9,9 in his pocket and no help came for Vartan on the board.
David Saab was more successful and he lasted all the way to the dinner break. It didn’t take a lot afterwards though to send him to the rail. Barely had he played a few hands after having returned from dinner that he found himself shoving all-in on an A,8. Dan Shak called him down on an As, Qs and sent Saab home after the board failed to improve either hand involved.
Dan Shak and Joshua Wilson also joined the railbirds as Dean Blatt became the bubble boy dropping out just short of the final table.
Billy Argyros was the short stack at the final table, so he was the first one pressured into putting his tournament life on the line. His A,Q turned out to be no match to Grant Levy’s full house though.
David Bach fell next, followed by Bruno Portaro. James Obst busted at the hands of Jesse Maguire and Zach Gruneberg got rid of Grant Levy.
After Ken Eastwood was eliminated, Gruneberg sent Jesse Maguire to the payout queue too, and took the chip lead heading into the heads-up.
The final hand of the day saw Gruneberg shove all-in on a Q,9 holding top pair on the flop. Craig Bergeron called him on his K,2 but failed to catch anything on the turn or the river to turn the hand around. Gruneberg took home a $35,000 paycheck.
