The first internet gambling permit to be issued by the State of New Jersey under the umbrella of the new local
online poker and gambling laws has been awarded on October 9, 2013, a date which will go down in history if the online gaming dynasty Sen. Raymond Lesniak has foreseen will indeed come to fruition in the future. The recipient of the permit is the Borgata Hotel Casino and Spa in the Garden State’s Atlantic City.
The reason Borgata was the first one to pick up the coveted permit was that apparently they were the first to submit a complete application to the New Jersey Division of Gaming Enforcement. The fact that they are now legally entitled to begin offering online games doesn’t mean they can do so right away. They will in fact have to wait till November 21 to put their systems online and ready to accept real money bettors, when online poker and gambling are officially launched in the state.
November 21 is the official launch-date of the trial period which is meant to assess the viability of the whole setup. If everything goes well during the trial, on November 26, everything will go live, and players will be able to take their real money to the virtual tables of the operators.
The two corporate entities behind Borgata are Boyd Gaming and MGM Resorts International. The partner tasked with the online side of the operations is bwin.party, which teamed up with the aforementioned companies in October, 2011. What this probably means is that players who sign up with Borgata’s new online poker operation will use the new
PartyPoker software. Obviously, no one outside the state boundaries will be allowed to participate in the action, at least for the time being.
PartyPoker is the home of some of the best and most generous online poker promotions and live event qualifiers.
