The Biggest Online Poker Winner of 2014 is…Daniel Cates!

At the end of every year, we take a look back at the most and least successful online poker players of the past 365-day period, and needless to say, we always find some high-profile professional taking up the top spot in both categories. This year, the most profitable online poker player (at least from among those who allowed their records to be tracked), was Daniel Cates. Cates’ 2014 haul was indeed quite incredible: he amassed some $2.8 million in winnings at Full Tilt Poker, to which he added a further $631.2k, money which he won at PokerStars. Everything added up, Cates finished some $3.4 million above the red line. The competition was stiff all the way, especially towards the end of the year, when Mikael Thuritz mounted a fierce offensive to eventually take his profits to $2.57 million.

Despite the fact that his 2014 winnings were indeed quite impressive, Cates fell well behind the biggest winner of 2013, Niklas Heinecker, who finished $6.19 million above the red line. As far as Heinecker’s 2014 winnings are concerned, we cannot chime in on the matter, because he’s opted out of having his profits tracked. The truth is though that Heinecker didn’t really seem to be pulling his weight at the online tables lately, so he was probably never on track to a 2013-like year. Surprisingly enough, the one who made the most profit per hand played in 2014, was Isaac Haxton, who logged his profits at Full Tilt Poker too. He won no less than $74 per hand, but he only played some 20.7k hands, so his total was just $1.54 million.
Play at Full Tilt Poker, and hit their cash tables: that’s where the best online poker action is as far as cash games are concerned.
