They apparently celebrate every interesting major real-world event with such a promotion, and their $10k Football Fever leaderboard challenge is the latest example in this respect. The promotion celebrates the start of the NFL season and it does so in style: by handing out some $10k in weekly cash prizes, through the month of September. The Football Fever consists of 4 weekly parts, every one of them handing out $2.5k.
The first promotional stage runs from August 31 to September 6 and the prizes are paid out on September 7. The second stage starts on September 7 and wraps up on September 13. Payout date for this leg is on September 14. The third leg of the promotion takes place during the September 14- September 20 period, handing out its prizes on September 21. The last promotional week gets going on September 21 and it wraps up on September 27, with the payout date set for September 28.

The weekly prize distribution is a pretty solid one as well. No fewer than 20 players get paid each week, with the winner walking away with a $500 prize. The share of the runner-up is $250 as is that of the 3rd-place finisher. From 11th place all the way to 20th, everyone earns exactly $50.
Obviously, in order to rank high on the leaderboard and to take down a large prize, players are required to generate points via real money cash game action (indeed, only cash games are eligible for the promotion). The way these points are earned is rather peculiar too: every time a player suffers a bad beat, he picks up 2 points. When a 4 of a kind is made, 3 points are earned. A royal flush is worth 6 points. Sometimes extra points are awarded too (always 1).
Another peculiar thing about the promotion is that players are required to manually claim their points through a form at the BetOnline site after each qualifying hand. The leaderboard is available at the site too, so one can check his/her progress in more or less real time.
Those who decide to spam the hand-submission form with non-qualifying hands will be ejected from the promotion.
