Sam Trickett for PartyPoker World Open VI Success

The PartyPoker.com World Open VI promised to be a roaring success and it’s pretty clear to both online poker sites, poker forums, and live poker players that it lived up to the expectations. There is no-one that is more excited by the success of the tournament than its winner, UK poker player Sam Trickett.

Sam Trickett will be known to many already for his cash finishes this year in live poker events, but this was his first major win. Trickett  beat  American Yevgeniy Timoshenko who already has a World Poker Tour title under his belt, as well as a winning title from the Asian Poker Tour and the World Championship of Online Poker which is sponsored by PokerStars.  The PartyPoker event final table featured along with Trickett and Timoshenko, Toby Lewis, John Duthie, Dale Hoy, Andrew Robl, and Juha Helppi. The elimination of Andrew Robl was a particularly noteworthy hand. Pocket queens against pocket 9s with Qc, 9s, Qd, 5s, 9c on the felt saw Robl’s four of a kind simply not live up to Lewis’s in probably one of the most exciting hands of the year.

The tournament was shootout style so all players began the final table with the same stack.  Hoy was the first to be sent packing followed by Robl, and then John Duthie who went out in 5th. Fourth place winner was Juha Helppi another of Lewis’ casualties, and then Lewis himself went out in 3rd. Timoshenko had an advantage of around 250,000 over Trickett going into heads up play which lasted for approximately one hour.  The final hand saw Timoshenko confident with a suited A-4 and Trickett calling with a suited T-9. The table of A-5-T-2-9, a well timed check, and an all in bet by Trickett saw the young Brit walk away with $200,000 and the American with $110,000.
