NAPT Los Angeles – Day 3 report

The Bicycle Casino in Los Angeles welcomed a surviving field of 81 players, all of them in the money, yet poised to make it as deep in the poker tournament as possible. At the end of the day, only 19 managed to attain that objective, the rest of the contenders disposed of and paid. Christopher DeMaci was the one who managed to amass the largest stack on day 3. He closed the day with a 3.7 million stack under his belt. DeMaci didn’t happen across all those chips in one big hand near the end of the day as it’s often the case. Instead, he built it up over pretty much the entire length of the day, winning several large confrontations.
One such confrontation saw him pick up pocket rockets and kick the hand off with a preflop raise. Paul Kuzmich, who had pocket 8s, shoved all-in in response, probably as a gesture of intimidation. DeMaci jumped all over the opportunity though and sure enough, the board did nothing to dent his preflop lead.
Later in the day, another perfect situation unfolded for DeMaci. He picked up pocket rockets again, and after some three-way preflop give and take, he found himself all-in, against Mike Leah’s pocket Qs.
The board brought another A to give DeMaci a set, cementing his lead and his grip on the pot. Micah Raskin managed to amass a rather large stack as well. Of the name pros, Jason Mercier was at the forefront of the action. He finished with a stack of 2.15 million chips.
Another pro who survived the day was Michael Binger. Binger took down a crucial pot against James Casement, when his K,Jo managed to catch a lucky break against his opponent’s dominating A,Ko.
Mercier caught a similarly lucky hand, when his K,Jo made a straight against Jacob Toole’s pocket 10s.
