The Poker Grapevine – Romanello Innovates

Roberto Romanello may mostly be known for his
EPT exploits, but the poker pro is much more than a simple player: he’s apparently a true innovator. The game of poker has largely been the same from its beginnings. Lately though, its immense and ever-growing popularity has created a need for innovation: Full Tilt Poker have invented Rush Poker just before
online poker’s Black Friday, a fast-folding version of the game which has since been adopted by pretty much every major online poker operator.
While Rush Poker was primarily focused on cash games, Romanello’s innovation is aimed at
tournament poker. His game is called MPP (Multi Prize-Pool) poker and it will be put to the test on the live circuit, at the Dusk Till Dawn club in Nottingham, UK.
The concept of Multi Prize-Pool poker is a relatively simple one. Apparently, such tournaments will feature 3 buy-in levels, coupled with 3 prize-pools. Each event will feature a default prize-pool. The best way to illustrate how MPP events work is through an example: if there’s an event which features a $10/$20/$30 structure, that means those who cough up a $10 buy-in will basically buy into the default prize-pool. Those who want to buy into the second prize-pool will pay out $20, of which $10 goes into the first prize-pool and $10 into the second. Those who pay out $30, will invest $10 in the default prize-pool, $10 in the second one and $10 in the third one.
The advantages of buying into as many prize-pools as possible are obvious: players who only buy into the default prize-pool will only be able to win money from there, but those who buy into all three prize-pools will be able to collect money from all 3 of them.
Pros and fish are said to equally benefit from the new setup.
