2013 WSOP – Day 2 of Event #36 in the Books

The second day of the $1.5k NL Holdem Shootout (event #36 of the
2013 WSOP) went into the books today and the field successfully played down to the final 12. A total of 120 players showed up at the tables at the beginning of the day, looking to win their tables and advance. 10 tables were set up and indeed, the winners of each of these tables advanced to what will be the final day of the event.
Among the participants – and eventually among those who advanced as well – there were quite a few “name” pros. Nacho Barbero was one of these pros and he did indeed provide quite a poker lesson to those sitting at his table as well as to the railbirds, by dominating from start to finish. He started off on the right foot, grabbing the chip lead straight out of the gates. At one point he hit a boat and he took full advantage of it, eliminating not one but two players in one move: Andreas Hoivold and Andrew Teng. That move gave him a massive lead which he took right into the 3-handed stage of his table. There, he bounced Allen Kessler and Sebastion Saffari to secure his Day 3 seat.
Another player who made it into the top 12 was Kevin Vandersmissen, who was seated at a table filled with “name” competitors like Max Lykov, Jesse Sylvia and Amanda Musumeci. The high quality competition took a toll on his performance indeed, as at one point during the day he found himself short-stacked and about ready to be bounced. He re-bounded though and eventually secured his day 3 presence by defeating Steve Hohn heads-up.
Tobias Wenker, Mike Watson and Salman Behbehani made it to day 3 as well.
