The high stakes
online poker world is a place where emotions run high and tempers often flare, so to say it’s not void of drama would be a massive understatement indeed. There is plenty of drama, and most of it is thoroughly enjoyed by those standing on the sidelines. The latest bit of drama emerging from the annals of the online poker world is one starring Daniel Cates and Ben Grundy. Cates has apparently long been on Grundy’s case in regards to a heads-up showdown the two were supposed to have or may have agreed upon at one point – it isn’t quite clear.
Cates is one of the best known poker professionals, who plays regularly in some of the biggest online cash games. On
Full Tilt Poker alone, he has amassed career profits of more than $9 million.
Grundy’s claim to fame on the other hand is a phenomenal poker graph and he’s supposedly amassed profits totaling around $8 million himself.
The bottom line is that more than a year after the idea of a heads-up bout between the two had emerged, Cates still couldn’t find any action against Grundy. In a
poker forum post, he called out the Brit, essentially challenging him to play him as high a $500/$1k. Grundy basically said he would play him, but apparently he’s been avoiding not just Cates but the online poker tables altogether lately.
In an interview as well as in various forum posts, Cates has since questioned Grundy’s poker skills as well as his $8 million profits-claim.
In other news: 888Poker is running a Jackie Glazier freeroll, which awards a $5.5k package to its winner. The package is for the WSOPE’s Paris event, and Jackie Glazier is playing too. Glazier finished the 2013 WSOP Main Event as the last woman standing, busting in 31st place.
