GPI Changes – Rettenmaier Back on Top

The GPI’s various poker player ranking lists saw quite a few changes this week: both the Player of the Year list as well as the GPI 300 saw new leaders emerge. Although he doesn’t currently lead any of the above said rankings,
PokerStars pro Daniel Negreanu was the one who gained the most, because he moved up into second place on both lists. The way things are currently going, it’s only a matter of time till the Canadian manages to clinch one or both of those top spots, and given how keen he is on being at the top, it’s certainly going to be one fulfilling moment for him.
The Player of the Year rankings saw Ole Schemion climb 6 positions, landing right in the lead. Schemion’s rise to the top was doubtlessly powered by his 3 cash finishes in the EPT’s Barcelona stop, two of which – the Super high Roller and the High Roller – saw him make the final table. Schemion seems to have an uncommon knack for doing extremely well in
EPT events: back in May, he finished 3rd in one event and won no fewer than 3 side events of the EPT 9’s Monte Carlo Grand Final.
Daniel Negreanu climbed 4 places to land in second. His most recent accomplishment is a second place finish in the
EPT Barcelona High Roller.
Mike Watson stayed put in 3rd place, while Paul Volpe dropped 3 places into 4th.
The GPI 300 saw Marvin Rettenmaier climb a place to reclaim his top spot. Daniel Negreanu did well there too: he climbed 5 spots into second. Jason Mercier, the previous leader, dropped two places into 3rd, while 4th place is currently taken up by Philipp Gruissem, who climbed one spot. The biggest loser of the top 10 was Steve O’Dwyer, who dropped 5 places, into 8th.
