WPT Hitting Korea in December

This December will apparently be an extremely busy month for high stakes live poker players world-over. The WPT for instance has never ventured into Korea, but that is about to change soon, as the island of Jeju is set to play host for the inaugural edition of the WPT Korea Main Event. The focus of the Korea stop will obviously be the above said Main Event which features a $3k buy-in, but besides that, the WPT’s National China event will also take place there. The actual venue hosting the stop will be the Ramada Plaza Hotel WPT Club Phoenix Poker Room.
According to WPT President Adam Pliska, the Jeju event is meant to capitalize on the success of the recent Chinese event the WSOP put on. It also fits well with the WPT’s overall strategy of expanding the brand into Asia. Pliska also expressed hope that more similar events would follow throughout Asia in the coming months/years.
The WPT Korea Main Event is set to feature 2 Day 1 flights, with re-entries available. The mini-series will kick off on December 15, with the final table of the WPT National China, and it will wrap up on December 19.
The one responsible for the WPT Korea Main Event and for the WPT National China will be Matt Savage, the WPT’s Executive Tour Director. Live commentary for the
poker tournaments will be provided by Tony Dunst, Lacey Jones and Xuan Liu.
No poker series can be complete without a high roller. The $50k Super Elite Cup will be the one filling in this role, a tournament which will kick off on December 14. A single re-entry will be allowed for each player in the high roller too. Every one of the players who buy into the event will automatically receive an entry into the WPT Korea Main Event.
