2014 PCA: $25k High Roller – Day 1 Report

The first day of the $25k High Roller of the 2014 PokerStars Caribbean adventure went into the books on Saturday and the one who grabbed the provisional chip lead was Jonathan Jaffe. Jaffe finished with 422k chips to his name, well ahead of second place man Ole Schemion of Germany who had 347.7k chips bagged.
Given that it’s a high roller we’re talking about, granted much smaller than the $100k Super High Roller which kicked off this year’s series, it came as no surprise that after day 1, the top ranks of the event were rife with “name” professionals. Besides Schemion – who always seems to find his way into the top 2-3 of these events – PokerStars’ Daniel Negreanu had a more than decent run on Saturday too. He finished with 344.5k chips, enough for 3rd place. He was followed by Philipp Gruissem in 4th – another German who’s been doing extremely well lately - with 290.3k chips. Daniel Colman of the US made the top 7 as well, with 260.5k chips to his name.
Max Altergott, another German who has been an integral part of Germany’s dominating “team” of high stakes tournament players last year, finished within the top 10 as well: his 250.8k chips were enough to land him in 9th.
The top 10 was wrapped up by Russia’s Aleksandr Denisov.

Through the first day of action, some 229 buy-ins were registered, which included 190 unique buy-ins and a total of 39 re-buys. Registration will remain open until the beginning of Day 2 and even though the record for the biggest ever $25k high roller has already been beat, the field-size is likely to grow some more before the final numbers are announced.
PokerStars’ Vanessa Selbst busted out from the Main Event, which prompted her to enter this one. She made it to Day 2, together with Bertrand Grospellier, Max Lykov and Jonathan Duhamel.
