While the Main Event obviously stole all the limelight at the EPT’s Season 10 Deauville stop, there were other events rolling on in the background, even as the Main Event just getting going. The €2,250 French Poker Series High Roller was one of these events, which went into the books on Tuesday.
The FPS High Roller was a major success, generating a level of interest not even the most optimistic organizers had expected.
A total of 303 players bought into the
poker tournament, generating a prize-pool of €654.4k. The large starting field prompted the organizers to extend the event – originally planned to be a one-day affair – to two days. In the end, it was won by a local player: Kamel Tir, who walked away with €131k, the title and of course the bragging rights which always come with such accomplishments. Tir bested Simon Deadman of the UK heads-up. Deadman’s share of the prize-pool was €87.2k.
Third place went to Dario Sammartino of Italy, who was followed by fellow countryman Andrea Dato and Lebanon’s Al Fakih Sal.
Several notables made the money in this one. Bertrand Grospellier for instance, finished 32nd, taking home €4.5k for his efforts. Jean-Norel Thorel made a deep run too: he finished 20th, for a €7k reward.
Philippe Ktorza and Matthew Frankland were among the top finishers as well.
Anthony Faisca of Belgium was the first victim of the final table. His share of the prize-pool was €16.5k. Nicolas Cardyn of France finished 7th, biting the dust after Faisca. He took home €22.4k.
Jakub Maciej Michalak finished 6th, picking up €30.5k.
Al Fakih Sal’s share of the prize money was €40.4k, while Andrea Dato became the first player to move past the €50k mark: he took home €51.5k.
