A total of 118 players returned to the tables of the Borgata for the 3rd day of the 2014 Borgata Winter Poker Open Championship Event. The story of the day was basically that of a marathon grind, which lasted for 15 hours and at the end of which 36 players were left standing.
The player who clinched the chip lead going into Day 4 was Farid Jattin, who had 3.81 million chips bagged. Jattin’s lead is indeed a massive one, given that second place man Jared Jaffe has only accrued 2.34 million chips.
Robert Merulla and David Paredes had excellent day 3 runs too. Merulla finished 3rd with 2.15 million chips, while Paredes locked up 4th place with exactly 2 million.
At the beginning of the day, all eyes were on chip leader Laz Hernandez, who was coming off a successful defense of his lead on Day 2. Hernandez was obviously looking to continue his domination of the
poker tournament, but Lady Luck disagreed with him this time. First, he dropped a major pot to Byron Kaverman, after the two of them set up something of a coin-flip. Hernandez’s pocket 4 fell short against Kaverman’s Kd, Qd, after the latter hit a pair of Qs on the turn. Hernandez must’ve been bothered by the major setback, because a few hands later, ha was all-in against Kaverman, holding a rather un-impressive A,2o. Kaverman made the call with a dominating A,Qo, and sure enough, his hand held, sending Hernandez packing.
Aaron Massey made the money, but he failed to make a truly deep run, withering away in 109th place. Dan O’Brien, Matt Affleck and John Racener fared better, but they too failed to have any chips bagged at the end of the day.
Faraz Jaka on the other hand, finished with 1.34 million chips.
