Poker AI Whooped by Professional Players

Artificial intelligence has come a long way over the last few years and when it comes to the game of poker, AI encoded into various poker bots seemed to do exceptionally well indeed. A computer science team at Carnegie Melon University has put together a poker-playing program/bot, called Claudico, which was deemed more than capable of pitting its wits against the best of the human players. To test out the system, from April 24 to May 8, 4 of the world's best poker professionals competed against Claudico in a series of games, looking to determine whether humans still held the edge over AI poker-wise.
The results were quite clear and left no room for doubt: Claudico was nowhere in the same league as the 4 pros. While the AI apparently put up a good fight, it managed to lose some $732.7k to the four players over the above said time-frame. Obviously, if that were a staked human player, those backing him would be knocking on his door right about now.
Play at Carbon Poker: the site offers some superb promotions, including a massive online series which hands out $2.3 million in guaranteed prizes.

Called the "Brains vs AI" Challenge, the test consisted of 80k hands of NL Texas Holdem, during the course of which, some $170 million of virtual money was bet. The four players who ended up whooping Claudico were Doug Polk, Bjorn Li, James Les and Dong Kim. Polk took an early lead against Claudico during the first week of their match-up, being up by ~$400k at one point. The machine learned some of his moves though and on the second week, it managed to halve Polk's profits.
Polk was not impressed though: he said some of Claudico's betting was downright erratic. Li on the other hand never struggled against the machine: on the contrary, he kept getting better and better at emptying its virtual pockets.
