The Online Poker Weekend - Sammartino Wins Big

The weekend once again yielded massive numbers at the online poker tournament tables at PokerStars as well as at the other major operators. Several "name" players ended up with big scores too, among them Dario Sammartino, who won the $21k NL Holdem 8-Max High Roller event of the 2016 SCOOP. Despite the size of the buy-in, no fewer than 143 players coughed up the money, creating a prize-pool of $2.93 million. The lion's share of that ended up in Sammartino's pockets, after he defeated Henrik Hecklen heads-up for the top spot. Indeed, due to the nature of the event and the size of the buy-in, the tournament turned out to be very pro-heavy. Besides Sammartino and Hecklen, Jason Koon, Brian Rast and Martin Kozlov finished well in the money too. The share of the winner was a massive $718.2k, while the runner-up had to settle for $498.3k. Koon walked away with $117.2k.

The big scores weren't limited to SCOOP events alone though: the Sunday Grand handed out another 6-figure haul. A player known by the moniker "daskalos20" was the one who grabbed the top spot in this one. His share of the prize-pool was a handsome $110.2k.
Over at partypoker, one of the site's newest ambassadors, Patrick Leonard, took down the $200k High Roller, pocketing some $48.5k for his efforts. On Sunday, the $300k guaranteed played down to a winner as well. The one who walked away with the top prize in this one was "Gargurgel" who pocketed $55.1k.
At 888poker, the limelight was on the Super XL, but the tournament that played down all the way to its winner was the $200k Super Whale. Sebastian Sikorski won this one, for $43.1k.
