2010 WSOP Day 7 – Two more champs crowned

The 7th day of the 2010 WSOP saw two more players earn their gold bracelets. Joshua Tieman was the first of the two. He earned his WSOP jewelry in the $5,000 NL Holdem Shootout, event #6 of this year’s Series.
Tieman took on Neil Channing heads-up for the win. The heads-up action barely lasted for more than a dozen hands, as Channing came into the confrontation with a 7:1 chip disadvantage. He had been lurking in the shadows, sitting on a short stack for most of the final table, and his approach did manage to get him past Joseph Elpayaa, Nicholas Levi, Brent Hanks and Stuart Rutter. Eventually though, he had to come out and fight and he did against Tieman. The final hand of the poker tournament saw Channing move all-in holding A,7o. Tieman made the call with A,Jo and the race was on. The board fell K,10,4,10,Q, giving Tieman an A-high straight for the stylish finish. The winner picked up $441,692 for his efforts.

Event #7, the $2,500 2-7 Triple Lowball event was responsible for the second bracelet of the day. This one went to Hungary’s Peter Gelencser, who had to outlast an original starting field of 291 players on his way to the top.
The final table saw a more than dominant performance by the Hungarian, who appeared to be quite unstoppable at times.
Raphael Zimerman was the last player standing between Gelencser and the title. The final hand of the event saw Gelencser’s 9,7,4,3,2 top Zimmermann’s 8,6,5,3 which had another 6 added to it on the final draw.

Event #8, the $1,500 NL Holdem one, saw the field reduced to 25. Saar Wilf finished with the biggest stack of chips, having amassed more than 1 million. Andrew Cohen finished in 2nd place. Cohen had been leading the pack for a while thrusting his stack over the 1 million chip mark through the elimination of Sam Dickson. He eventually finished with 848,000 chips.

Event #9, the $1,500 PL Holdem event, saw a field riddled with illustrious names belly up to the tables at its start. Of the 650 registrants, only 65 were still in contention at the end of the day. The $10,000 Seven-Card Stud World Championship event got started on Day 7 as well. Michael Mizrachi, winner of the $50k Players’ Championship, finished the day with the biggest stack. Vladimir Schmelev, the player Mizrachi had had to best heads-up for the win in that event, finished with the second largest stack.
