2010 WSOP Main Event – bubble bursts

Day 4 of the 2010 WSOP’s Main Event saw a milestone reached: the money bubble burst about halfway through the day. From that point onward, the 747 survivors of the initial starting field of 7,319 could rest assured they’d not have to go home with nothing but the proverbial wooden spoon to show for their efforts.
Tim McDonald was the bubble-boy, but – in true
WSOP Main Event fashion – he did not have to go home winless either: the tough break was turned into a relatively lucky one for him by the sponsors who gave him a seat in next year’s Big Dance.
McDonald’s final hand saw him go up against Ismail Erkenov. Reduced to short-stack status, McDonald had no choice but to get the last of his chips in from the button, holding Q,Q. His chances looked great but Erkenov made the call nonetheless. The flop was on the table when McDonald decided to move all in and it read A,A,2. Little did he know that Erkenov had A,2 in his pocket for the flopped boat. All McDonald could hope for was to land two more Qs, and peculiarly enough, he did catch another one on the river. The 7d which landed on the turn though had already sealed his fate by then.
In order to find out whether or not he was indeed the bubble boy, McDonald had to wait a few tense seconds to see if there were others bounced on the same orbit. It soon became obvious though that the Fat Lady had sung, and he started texting away on his mobile.
Organizers are looking for the action to gather some momentum, now that the bubble is out of the way.
