2010 WSOPE Day 2 – Pantling still in the lead

Day 2 of the 2010 WSOP Europe London event had a clear goal set: working right down to the final table. With only 31 of the 244 Day 1 starters returning to the grinder on day two, that goal appeared well-achievable indeed. Andrew Pantling had had an excellent day 1, but his day 2 performance far exceeded even that. He was the one who started the day with the chip lead (on a stack of a little over 100k chips), and even though he was overtaken during the day, the final whistle caught him with the largest stack again, this time with a 627k monster, about twice as big as that of the second place man.

Chris Moorman started Day 2 two hours later than the rest of the field. Having overslept, he managed to bounce right back though and he crept into the money at the expense of an incredibly unlucky Javed Abrahams, who became the bubble boy of the poker tournament. Abrahams had the nut flush in his final hand, but unfortunately for him, Ilan Rouah had a straight flush for the win and the huge upset.
About a quarter of an hour later, Liv Boeree got her chips into the middle holding a nut flush, and got called by Lawrie Inman, who proceeded to hit a straight flush to send Boeree packing.

Even though they played in front of their home crowd, having sailed into the money seemed to have a negative effect on the surviving Brits. Praz Bansi, Chris Moorman and Lawrie Inman were all eliminated short of the final table.
Willie Tann had been nursing a short stack all through day 2 of the event and he looked poised to become the official final table bubble boy of the poker tournament. He would probably have clinched the “honors” indeed had it not been for John Tabatabai who beat him to the title. Thus, Tann will be the one starting the final table as the official short-stack, with only 72k chips to his name. Phil Laak made it into the final stages too, on a stack of 317k chips.

A pair of twos turned out to be eonugh to win a 27-year-old Oshawa man $1.35 million early Monday morning in the final hand of the World Poker Tour's North American Championship. How's that for dumb luck? (Oh geez, the guy never even played in a tournament before, either) Don't know about you, but hearing about something like that kinda takes the thrill out of getting nice hands for me
