Event #3 of the 2010 WSOPE kicked off by attracting a starting field of 202 players on its first day 1 flight. The organizers had originally planned to let the day 1A field battle it out over 10 levels of play, but shortly after the action had kicked off, it became obvious they couldn’t let players at it for that long. As level 9 came to an end, around 85% of the starting field had already been knocked out, so calling it the day was only the reasonable thing to do.
Martin Hansen had been dominating the early going, and around the half-way mark he seemed poised to end the day with the largest stack of chips. When the final whistle was blown though, it was Jeppe Bisgaard who had the largest stack towering in front of him.
Just before the dinner break, Hansen popped up in the spotlight, taking on Ramsey Ajram for a 150 BB monster pot. The board was all laid out (K,8,2,6,5) when Ajram shoved all-in holding a K,4. Hansen had K,3, made the call and the two ended up chopping the pot much to the dismay of the railbirds and fellow poker players who’d been hoping for a spectacular bust one way or the other.
A few hands later, the two of them tangled again in another similarly sized pot, which Hansen managed to win.
Another player who had an excellent early run was Anton Wigg. Wigg stayed out of trouble mostly, building his stack gradually. All his hard work would’ve almost certainly earned him the chip leader’s position, had it not been for an unlucky hand he dropped towards the end of the day. Still, his 45,600 chips were enough for second place. Chip leader Jeppe Bisgaard amassed a stack of 49,000.
