9 players bellied up to the tables of the Empire Casino in London for the final day of the long and tedious battle that the 2010 WSOPE’s Main Event turned out to be. With more stars per table than just about any other live event ever, the WSOPE Main Event’s field was a tough one to navigate indeed.
The makeup of the final table did a fine job of reflecting the outstanding quality of the field. Dan Fleysman had a marginal lead over Ronald Lee heading into the final table. The official short-stack was Marc Inizan.
Due to the structure that was meant to allow plenty of room to maneuver for the final table participants, the battle took around 12 hours to yield a winner.
The first elimination of the day would be credited to Ronald Lee’s name, and what an elimination it was. Marc Inizan, the short-stack and Brian Powell decided to stake their tournament lives on a small pocket pair they’d picked up: pocket 8s. since both of them had the same hand, they would probably have ended up splitting the pot and staying alive, had it not been for Ronald Lee and his A,K which proceeded to hit another K on the board to eliminate both short-stacked hopefuls.
Danny Steinberg was the one to end up in 6th position. He still had a little over 1 million chips left but he decided to risk it all, shoving all-in on an A,J against Ronald Lee’s pocket 4s. The small pair held and Steinberg was out.
Nicholas Levi fell in 5th, at the hand of the same Ronald Lee. He was followed to the rail in 4th place by Roland De Wolfe.
Ronald Lee, quite possibly the most active player at the final table, was eliminated next. The heads-up action came to an end when Bord’s pocket 10s outlasted Baldassari’s pocket 5s in the last hand of the poker tournament.
