The final day 1 flight of the 2011 Aussie Millions attracted a starting field of 274 players. After 3 Day 1 flights, the total size of the starting field hit the 721 mark, creating a prize-pool of AUD$7,210,000. The winner of the
poker tournament will thus take home an impressive AUD$2 million prize. Even the second place man will be rewarded in excess of AUD$1 million.
There were plenty of name pros among the Day 1c starters too. James Obst was there, together with Tony Hachem, James Bord and Peter Jetten.
At the end of the day, of the 274 starters only 109 were still at the tables. They joined 83 Day 1a and 80 day 1b survivors to form a 240 player starting field for Day 2.
For the Aussies, day 1c produced a sweet surprise: at the end of the day, one of their own, Oliver Keefe reared his head virtually out of nowhere, to take the chip lead. The 198,200 chips that he managed to rack up, were enough to give him the overall chip lead going into day 2 too. Erick Lindgren is hot on his tail however, and so are Phil Ivey and Patrick Antonius, who both finished their day 1 flights with more than healthy stacks.
The other big news of the day was the ongoing Million Dollar Cash Game. A truly impressive lineup showed up for the second day of action. Patrik Antonius, Tom Dwan, Andrew Feldman, David Benyamine, Mike Matusow, David Oppenheim, Justin Smith and Eric Cajelais bellied up to the table this time, playing $400/$800 with $1k antes. Phil Ivey appeared later to take Justin Smith’s seat. Two of the Chinese businessmen who are regulars in such high stakes cash games in Macau showed up as well, but Tom Dwan failed to persuade them to drop the role of spectators and to take a seat at the table.
Matusow, Feldman and Oppenheim all finished above the red line. Smith and Cajelais were the biggest losers.
