2011 November Nine Preview – Ben Lamb

Ben Lamb is beyond doubt one of the most capable and dangerous players from this year’s November Nine. Let’s face it though, before the 2011 WSOP no one had really heard about the player who goes by the online moniker ‘Benba’. Lamb started to play Holdem in 2006, and even though he didn’t make particular waves then, he scored his first cash the same year. In the 2007 WSOP Main Event, he finished 156th but as it turned out, that achievement would be a mere herald of much bigger things to come. In 2009, he barely missed out on the November Nine: he finished 14th, picking up a $633k prize. In 2010, he finished in the money three times, but failed to achieve anything particularly outstanding. In 2011, he returned with a vengeance.

He started out by finishing second in a $3k PLO event, earning $259.9k. Event #42 was the $10k PLO World Championship event. Lamb won this one, taking down his first WSOP bracelet and a $814.4k prize to go with it.
In the $10k NL Holdem Six-handed event he was once again among the top finishers. He ran out of steam in 12th place in this one, earning a little over $56k. Lamb’s next deep finish came in event #55, the $50k Poker Players’ World Championship event. He made the final table, eventually having to settle for a $201.3 payday for his 8th place.
To wrap things up, he made the November Nine too, and if his awesome 2011 shape holds out, he may yet win the Big Dance.
To call his 2011 WSOP performance impressive would probably be a huge understatement: his above listed accomplishments have earned him the 2011 WSOP Player of the Year title.

His way to the November Nine was equally impressive. He finished the second day 1 flight of the Big Dance in the lead, besting a starting field of 985 players. He then clung to his large stack status for 8 days before he made the official final table.
