2011 November Nine Preview – Pius Heinz

Pius Heinz is definitely one of the biggest wildcards at the 2011 WSOP final table. Nobody really knows anything about the young German from Euskirchen, except for the fact that he’s the first German ever to make a WSOP Main Event final table, and in case he wins, he will naturally become the first German ever to take home the title. Whether or not that possibility acts as a driving force for him or as an obstacle to overcome remains to be seen.
Heinz has played in his first ever WSOP this year, and that considered, his performance thus far is nothing short of stellar: before playing in the Main Event, he made the final table of a $1,500 NL Holdem Event, finishing 7th after he made his way through a starting field of 2,713 players. He took down an $83.2k reward for his deep finish. That cash gave Heinz enough money to buy into the Main Event, not to mention the confidence needed to wade through the sea of opponents all the way to the final table.
When asked how he felt about making the November Nine, Heinz said he had found it hard to believe in the beginning. It was like a dream and he was waiting for someone to wake him up.
As far as supporters are concerned, Heinz will only have a couple of poker friends and his family cheering him on during the final dash. He will definitely need every bit of supportive edge he can scrape together if he wants to win, given the quality of the opposition he’s facing and given the fact that he will start 7th in chips, with a stack of 16,425,000.
Heinz said he was going to prepare for the final table by spending the last couple of days leading up to the November Nine resting and relaxing. He also said he hadn’t really played a lot during the three-month hiatus.
