Day 18 of the
2011 WSOP was outstandingly generous with the bracelets: it awarded no fewer than 3 of them. 4 more events saw action, which are yet to play down to a winner.
Event #28, the $1,500 NL Holdem one, had 349 players returning to action. The goal on the second day of the event was for the field to play down to the money bubble and then past it if possible. Sure enough, the bubble was reached and it burst too when two players were eliminated in the same time: Joe Gualtieri was one of the victims. He got it all-in with pocket Ks against a player’s pocket Js and then lost to a set the other guy hit on the turn. William Vincent also busted when his set of 6s was obliterated by another player’s set of 7s.
When the day was called, 28 players were still in contention.
The $2.5k 10-Game Mix event also entered its second day, with 162 players returning to its tables. This event shot past its money bubble too, when Stefan Rapp busted out. Freddy Deeb, Daniel Alaei and John Cernuto all made the money but failed to survive to Day 3. 19 players remained when the line was drawn. Shaun Deeb finished with the largest stack.
Event #30, the $1k Seniors’ NL Holdem Championship event kicked off on the right foot: it generated the biggest starting field ever in the history of the event. The previous record had been 610 registrants. This year, the event drew 3,752 players. There was no shortage of great names in the lineup either. Dennis Phillips, Amarillo Slim, Max Stern and Barry Johnson were all there.
The day ended with 529 players still in contention. John Bovin held the largest stack going into Day 2.
The $3k PLO event also got started, drawing a starting field of 647. Ben Lamb finished with the largest stack in this one, as the field played down to 138.
