2011 WSOP – Day 20 Recap

Day 20 of the 2011 WSOP was a busy one: it awarded no fewer than 3 bracelets: to Chris Lee, James Hess and Sam Stein. A handful of other events rolled towards their bracelet-crowned conclusions, while another one kicked off. The first bracelet of the day went to Chris Lee, who won the $2.5k 10-Game Mix Event. The final day of the event saw only 3 players return to action, so the fate of the title was pretty much guaranteed to be decided quickly. Chris Lee was the one who led the field. The other two hopefuls were Travis Pearson and Brian Haveson. Pearson shoved all-in on the second hand of the day, during a NL Holdem round, and Lee made the call with A,Q. An A on the flop bounced Pearson and set up the heads-up stage of the event. The final hand of the day was a 2-7 lowball one. Lee picked up $254k for his efforts.

The Seniors’ $1k NL Holdem Championship event was the event responsible for the second bracelet of the day. This one ended up in James Hess’ possession, who bested Richard Harwood heads-up for the title. 37 players had shown up for the final day of action. The chip leader when the final table was reached was Walter Browne.

The third bracelet of the day came in the $3k PLO event. 25 players returned to action on the final day of this one, looking to make the final table and then to play all the way down to the bracelet. PokerStars’ Sam Stein was the one who managed to pick up the precious piece of jewelry, besting Ben Lamb heads-up. Adam Junglen made the final table too, together with Brock Parker, who faded away in 7th.

Event #32, the $1.5k NL Holdem one continued to roll on. Its day 2 saw 362 players return, hoping to make it past the money bubble. Event #33, the $10k Stud 8 or Better World Championship Event saw 127 players return for its day 2. 18 remained at the end of the day, among them ex-UB pro Phil Hellmuth. The $1k NL Holdem event (#34) was the only one that got going on day 20. It drew a starting field of 3,144 players, of which only 323 remained at the end of the day.
