2011 WSOP – Day 21 Wrap-Up

Besides doling out 2 bracelets, Day 21 of the
2011 WSOP saw another event roll on and a new one kick off.
Event #34, the $1k NL Holdem one, entered its second day with 334 players showing up at the tables. All those present were already in the money when the action kicked off and therefore they were free of the money-bubble worries. The goal was to play down to the final table, and even though the field failed to play down to it, serious progress has been made. At the end of the day, only 27 of the initial 334 were still alive. The day was called on account of the 10-level rule.
“Name” players who busted out on Day 2, yet collected money for their efforts were: Matt Affleck, Peter Gelencser, Chad Batista and Lars Bonding.
Mike Souza managed to amass a stack of 650k chips, enough to give him the top spot on the provisional leader board.
The only event that got started on Day 21 was the $5k PLO Six-handed event. A first in WSOP history, event #35 didn’t fail to attract a massive starting field of 507 players. Due to the size of the buy-in this starting field was not only large, it was potentially more skilled than an average WSOP starting field too.
Among those who took part in the first day of action were: Sorel Mizzi, TJ Cloutier, Michael Mizrachi, Jake Cody, Praz Bansi, Phil Galfond and Team PokerStars' Vanessa Selbst.
110 players remained at the end of the day, and Vanessa Selbst was the one who managed to build the largest stack. Selbst already has a PLO bracelet under her belt.
The top 10 looks mighty impressive though: Peter Jetten, Erick Lindgren, Mike McDonald, Joseph Cheong, Shaun Deeb and Dave Ulliott all made the cut.
On day 22, the event will play down to its money bubble and possibly even to its final table.
Event #34 is likely to play down to a bracelet.
