Green felt hostilities flared up on day 5 of the 2011 WSOP. Eugene Katchalov stole the headlines for this day, by capturing his first ever WSOP bracelet. Maria Ho became the first female this year to advance to a final table.
Katchalov’s victory came in the $1,500 Stud Event. Ho’s final table happened in the $5,000 NL Holdem event. On Day 5, two events reached their respective money bubbles: the $1,500 Limit Holdem event and the $10k PL Championship event. Two events got rolling: the first of the $1k
NL Holdem events and the $1,500 NL 2-7 Lowball one.
The final day of the $1,500 Stud Event got going with 13 players returning to the tables. Given that some of these guys were already short on chips, it took but a little while for the final table to be reached. Eric Buchmann led the survivors into the final stretch, and he made it all the way to 3rd place before he faded away. Alessio Isaia and Eugene Katchalov were left to battle it out for the title. Eventually, it was Katchalov who emerged with the win, with a little bit of help from Lady Luck to pick up the bling and the $122k prize that came with it.
The very first $1k event of the
2011 WSOP kicked off with a huge bang on Day 5. As it was expected, a massive starting field turned up for Day 1A: 2,116 players. Most of these guys were of course commoners who could afford to buy into one of the cheapest events of the Series, but there were a few pros mingled in with them as well, probably drawn by the juice and the potentially massive ROI.
Vanessa Selbst was there, together with Tony Dunst, Chad Brown, Antonio Esfandiari and 2010 Main Event Champ, Jonathan Duhamel. Duhamel finished within the top 10 as Albert Kim clinched the chip lead for the day.
