Day 6 of the
2011 WSOP was certainly a busy one: no fewer than 3 WSOP bracelets were handed out, among them that of the first championship event, the $10k PL Holdem one. The $5k NL Holdem event, in which Maria Ho played as well, also reached a conclusion. The event should’ve ended a day earlier but it got drawn out due to the slow rate of eliminations over the later stages. All eyes were on Maria Ho when the last stretch of action commenced, and she did not disappoint indeed: she made it all the way to the heads-up stage, where Allen Bari mercilessly hammered home his huge chip advantage to take the title and the top prize.
The $1,500
Limit Holdem event was responsible for the second bracelet of the day. Harrison Wilder won this one, making his first ever WSOP cash a truly impressive one. Last year’s champion, Matt Matros, managed an impressive 11th place.
The $10k PL Holdem Championship event awarded the last bracelet of the day. 27 players returned to action on the final day, among them scores of “name” players. When the dust settled and the bling was awarded, there was only one left standing though: Amir Lehavot took home the jewelry, together with a $500k+ prize. Notables who finished high were Mike Matusow (20th), Jennifer Tilly (21st place) and Nenad Medic, who finished 25th.
The second day 1 flight of the $1k NL Holdem event saw an influx of a further 2k+ players to make up a total starting field of 4,178 for the event. When the action came to a halt at the end of the day, it became clear that only 624 players from both day 1 flights would move on to day 2. Gavin Griffin and Annette Obrestad were among the survivors.
Event #9 played down to the final 7 too. Jason Mercier is in a position to secure his second WSOP bracelet in that one.
