2011 WSOP-E, Event #3 – Steve Billirakis Wins

Event #3 of the 2011 WSOP-E returned on Wednesday with its final table, and what a final table it was. There was surely a plentiful supply of talent: Sam Trickett, Sam Chartier, Eoghan O’Dea and Steve Billirakis were all playing, together with a bunch of other – potentially dangerous – players.
Sam Trickett had the lead at the beginning of the day, and he took advantage of his large-stack to exert pressure on his opponents from the get-go. Eoghan O’Dea was the first victim of the final table. He was followed to the rail by Sam Chartier, and thus things had barely kicked off when two of the most dangerous players were already out of contention.

Ramzi Jelassi got going at about this point in the tournament. The following elimination – that of Erich Kollmann – was of Jelassi’s doing. Jelassi took over the lead with that move, and he proceeded to score yet another elimination by getting rid of Konstantin Uspenskiy in 6th. Steve Billirakis managed to score a double-up at Jerome Bradpiece’s expense. Michele Di Lauro then relieved Jelassi of quite a few chips to clinch the chip lead next.
Jerome Bradpiece busted out in 5th place, setting up 4-handed action and giving the lead to Billirakis.
Sam Trickett fell to Di Lauro next, and eventually Ramzi Jelassi succumbed to the pressure as well. Jelassi’s elimination contributed even more chips to Billirakis’ stack, so when the heads-up stage was reached, the American had a 4-1 lead on Michele Di Lauro. He used his advantage well, and he did in fact win pretty much every significant pot that developed heads-up. Eventually, the inevitable happened and Di Lauro ran out of chips for good. He picked up €147.1k for his efforts, while Billirakis picked up €238k for his win.

Two other events saw action on Wednesday, the €3.2k NL Holdem Shootout and the €10,400 NL Holdem event, which featured a split format.
