2011 WSOP-E, Event #4 – Tristan Wade Wins

Thursday would see yet another WSOP-E event wrap up: event #4, the €3,200 NL Holdem Shootout. Once again, it was an American who managed to work his way past the predominantly European field in order to steal the gold and the top prize.
Event #5 and event #6 rolled on as well.

On the final day of the 4th event, the blinds were pushed back, which allowed the large-stacks to observe the opposition undisturbed for a while in the beginning.
The 10-handed final table took about an hour and a half to eject the first victim. John Armbrust was the one to bite the dust first: he attempted a bluff against Max Silver and it backfired. Left short-stacked, he was forced to shove all-in on a pair of 6s, to run into Taylor Paur’s A,7o, for the classic coin-flip.
Railbirds had to wait another hour and a half for the next elimination, that of James Dempsey, whose pocket 8s proved to be no match for Bertrand Grospellier’s pocket 9s.
The flow of eliminations gathered a little momentum afterwards as Emil Patel bit the dust, followed to the rail by Steve O’Dwyer.
By that time though, Wade had revved up all his engines and he was speeding forward, adding to his stack every step of the way. He was the first player to reach the 1 million mark. Bertrand Grospellier busted out in 5th place, followed by Max Silver in 4th. Tristan Wade swung into action to dispose of PokerStars’ Richard Toth in 3rd place, thus setting up the heads-up stage of the game.
During heads-up play, Michael Watson managed to double up, when his K,10 got lucky against Wade’s pocket Js. Only a few moments later, Watson shoved all-in again, this time with Ah, 5h.
The board brought blanks only, giving Watson a 4-card flush, but nothing more. Watson picked up €112k for his efforts. Wade took home €182k.
