2011 WSOP-E – Mizrachi, Boucher Win

Saturday was an extremely busy day at the 2011 WSOP-E in Cannes. The Main Event of the series kicked off and no fewer than two new bracelet winners were crowned: Michael Mizrachi, who won event #5, the $10,300 NL Holdem Split Format event and Philippe Boucher, who won event #6, the $1,090 PLO event.
4 players were left in contention for the final day of event #5, among them Michael Mizrachi, Shawn Buchannan and Noah Schwartz.

The first semi final was a bout between Mizrachi and Roger Hairabedian of France. Mizrachi had dominated the heads-up action through the event, but in Hairabedian, he found a worthy adversary. The two of them battled it out over several hours, but eventually, Mizrachi did come through. The final hand of their bout was one worthy of the whole affair: Hairabedian had a set of 5s and Mizrachi hit a straight to send him packing.
In the meantime, Shawn Buchannan disposed of Noah Schwartz. The final was thus set between Buchannan and Mizrachi.
Mizarachi started the final confrontation with a chip advantage of 2-1. He took full advantage of the situation and he ran roughshod over his opponent. The final hand of the event saw Buchannan’s short stack shoved into the middle on an A,J. Mizrachi had A,10 and got lucky flopping a 10 to seal the deal. Mizrachi took home €336k for his efforts. Buchannan was rewarded with €207k.

Philippe Boucher won Event #6 in a more than convincing manner: he failed to lose a single all-in pot, sending one opponent to the rail after the other. He only stopped when there was no one else to trounce. Michel Dattani was the one who was left heads-up with Boucher. The final hand of the event saw Boucher make a straight to dispose of the last opponent, clinching the bracelet and the €124k top prize. Dattani picked up €76.9k for his efforts.
