77 people returned to the tables on the second day of the $500 Casino Employees event, all looking to get their hands on the first gold bracelet of this year’s
WSOP. Day 2 was supposed to be the final day of the event, the one on which the winner would be decided, but given that so many players had coughed up the buy-in, the organizers were forced to extend the hostilities a little. When the action kicked off, for a while there it looked like the objectives would indeed be fulfilled. Players dropped like flies left and right, and the final table was reached in a reasonable amount of time. Jason Baker was the one who had managed to clinch the chip lead when the survivors reached the final table. Daniel Quach was the one in second place, however his stack was considerably smaller than Baker’s. The final stretch of action proved to be quite rough for him too: even though he started the final table with high hopes, he had to admit defeat, fading away in 5th place.
He made his final stand holding a live Q,7o against Sean Drake’s J,4o. Drake then proceeded to hit a J on the turn and Quach was bounced in 5th.
Drake used the momentum to clinch the chip lead, and he was indeed still the possessor of the largest stack when the day was called with 4 players remaining. Jason Baker held on too, finishing Day 2 in second place.
The two of them would take the battle into the heads-up stage of the event the following day. Indeed, Day 3 saw the other two players quickly bounced out of the way as Drake and Baker locked horns for the title.
Eventually, it was Sean Drake who emerged victorious, pocketing a $82k top prize and more importantly: securing the first WSOP bracelet of the 2011 season.
