Both of the last 2011 WSOP side events played down to a winner on day 39 of the Series. Hasan Anter was the winner of the last NL Holdem side event. Nick Binger won the $5k PLO Hi/Lo split event to grab the last side-event bracelet of this year’s Series.
Event #56, the $1,500 NL Holdem one, saw 3 players return to the tables to battle it out for the title. Hasan Anter was the one who had the chip lead. The other two players were Nemer Haddad and Andy Philachack.
Anter took the bull by the horns as soon as the action kicked off. He hit both his opponents hard and he managed to extend his lead pushing both opponents to the brink. Philachack was the first one to bite the dust. He picked up pocket 3s and shoved all-in. Haddad made the call with A,10 and the coin-flip was on.
The flop brought a 10 to give Haddad a better pair. The two Ks which fell on the turn and the river sealed Philachack’s fate for good.
Even though the move propped his stack to 4 million chips, Hadded was still no match to Anter’s 12 million.
At the beginning of the heads-up stage, Haddad did pick up a few chips, but he couldn’t really gain proper traction until he finally managed to catch a few double-ups. At one point he even took the chip lead, but he then fell to a 3-1 handicap again. The final hand of the tournament came when Haddad decided to shove all-in holding an A,2o. Anter made the call with As,4o. The flop fell Ks,Qs,10s, and Anter had a royal flush draw. The 4s on the turn filled his flush, but the Js on the river further improved his hand, giving him a royal flush and the bracelet.
Anter picked up $777k for his win.
