2011 WSOP – Joe Ebanks Wins $10k NL Holdem Six-Handed Event

Day 31 of the 2011 WSOP was more prolific bracelet-wise than the previous day. It awarded two bracelets: to the winners of the $10k NL Holdem Six-handed World Championship event and the $2,500 Limit Triple Draw 2-7 Lowball event. Joe Ebanks was the first bracelet winner of the day.
Event #46 saw only two players return to the tables: the eventual winner, Joe Ebanks and Chris Moorman. Ebanks enjoyed a huge lead going into the final day of action: he had 11 million chips to Moorman’s 3.2 million. All Moorman could hope for was a quick double-up to stay alive. Unfortunately for him, the need to get something going pushed him to get it all-in very early. Lady Luck wasn’t with him either, thus the event was over within its first two hands, effectively before it began.
In the final hand of the tournament, Moorman made a preflop raise which was called by Ebanks. The flop fell Q,10,3. Both players checked the flop to see the Kh drop on the turn. Ebanks fired out a bet in response to which Moorman shoved all-in. Ebanks thought about it for a while but eventually made the call, tabling Kd, 4d for the top pair and a K-high flush draw. Moorman had J,10 for a straight draw. The card which decided the fate of the bracelet was the 9d which fell on the river, filling Ebanks’ flush draw and giving him the title, together with the $1,158,481 top prize.
The massive size of the top prize meant that Ebanks, who just won his first WSOP bling, would also become the first player to score a haul in excess of $1 million at the 2011 Series.

The event which got going on Day 31 was event #52, the $2,500 Mixed Holdem one. It drew a starting field of 580. Nikolay Losev finished with the chip lead. Jimmy Fricke, Max Pescatori and Chris Moorman all finished in the top 10. 153 players survived the first day.
