The 38th day of the 2011 WSOP saw two side-events play down to their respective final tables: the $1,500 NL Holdem event reached its final stretch and so did the $5k PLO Hi/Lo event. What everyone has been waiting for is finally here too: the
WSOP Main Event kicked off with its first day 1 flight.
42 players returned to the tables of the $1,500 NL Holdem event on day 3 of the tournament. Gavin Smith was the one who started the day with the largest stack of chips. Unfortunately for Smith, he failed to make the final table. He took a couple of early hits, and when there were still 12 players in contention he put his tournament life onto the line with a K,5o on a board of 3,K,J,8. Rayan Nathan was the one who made the call with pocket rockets. The river was a 6c and Smith was eliminated.
The final table bubble boy was a no less notorious poker professional: Bryn Kenney. He fell on a classic coin-flip: his pocket Js were bested by Andy Philachack’s A,Ko.
Kenney’s elimination gave Philachack the chip lead going into the final table.
Three players remained at the end of the day. Hasan Anter will return for the final day with the chip lead.
The third day of the $5k PLO hi/lo split event saw 25 players return to action. The final table was reached relatively fast: about halfway through the day, the bubble burst. Allan Kessler, Phil Laak and Nick Binger all made the final stretch. Bryce Yockey was the one who had the lead at this point in the tournament.
Having reached the final table on the shortest stack, Kessler was the first one to bite the dust. Phil Laak and his three Jacks were responsible for his elimination.
The heads-up stage between Nick Binger and David Bach was reached. After about 2 levels of heads-up action, the day was called on account of the 10-level rule.
Bach will start the final day with a marginal chip lead.
