2011 WSOP Main Event – The Gloves Are Off

With the money bubble far behind, the gloves flew off on day 6 of the 2011 WSOP Main Event. No longer aiming to just slip into the money, the primary goal of all participants was to chip up. When some chip up though, many others bite the dust, that is the nature of the post money-bubble tournament warfare, and that was exactly what was on display on day 6.
Throughout the day, the chip lead changed hands numerous times and eventually came to rest in Ryan Lenaghan’s possession. Lenaghan built a massive 3 million chip advantage over the second place man.

The beginnings of Lenaghan’s Day 6 run were rather humble: he began with 2.3 million chips, but with Lady Luck’s help and with plenty of perseverance, he added to his stack until he reached the 6 million chip mark with the elimination of Julian Stuer. Stuer was the one who made the all-in move on that hand: he shoved preflop on an A,8. Lenaghan made the call with a dominating A,K.
The next step up Lenaghan’s ladder was Aaron Rupert. Rupert had pocket 3s and Lenaghan had A,9o. He got lucky enough to win the coin-flip by catching another ace on the flop.
The player responsible for chipping Lenaghan up into the lead was Bryan Follain. Follain dropped a massive pot to Lenaghan at the end of a hand which saw his A,Q go up against the latter’s pocket Js in yet another classic coin-flip. The board blanked out yet again to conserve Lenaghan’s preflop advantage and to send his stack soaring to 12.3 million chips. Amanda Musumeci was Lenaghan’s last victim of the day.

Phil Collins had an excellent day too. He led the pack for a while in the beginning, after start of the day chip leader David Bach hit a snag or two.
Collins eliminated several players too, among them Joseph Cheong, who had finished the previous day on a decent stack but had gotten down to his last 500k chips right before his final hand.
