The first day of the 2011 November Nine is in the books and those who bet on Ben Lamb’s early elimination were proven wrong. Those who predicted that Phil Collins would walk away with the largest pile of money and the gold bracelet were wrong too. The final three has been set and Collins is not among them. It looks like this one will be decided among Lamb, Staszko and Pius Heinz.
On Sunday, nine players entered the Penn and Teller Theatre looking to settle the fate of the 2011 WSOP Main Event title.
It wasn’t until the 51st hand of the bout that first blood was drawn. Sam Holden shoved it all-in holding an As,Js and unfortunately for him, Ben Lamb woke up with an A,Ko under the gun and he made the call. The flop fell Ac,9c, 8c, giving Lamb a flush draw to go with his top pair. The Qc on the turned filled his flush and the first elimination of the final table was history.
Anton Makiievskyi followed Holden to the rail. Once again the chips were pushed into the middle preflop, but this time it was Heinz and Makiievskyi who were involved. Heinz had pocket 9s against Makiievskyi’s K,3o. The flop brought another K, giving Makiievskyi the lead, but the 9 which peeled off on the turn put Heinz back into the driver’s seat. The 7h on the river sealed the deal.
Makiievskyi’s elimination gave Heinz the chip lead. Bob Bounahra was the one who withered away in 7th place. He too got his chips into the middle preflop, holding a, A,5o. Martin Staszko made the call with A,9o. The board fell 7,6,2,K,6 rainbow, missing both hands involved and giving the pot to Staszko on account of his superior kicker.
Bounahra’s sorrow was sweetened by the $1,314,097 he picked up for his efforts. His prize was more than $300k bigger than that of Makiievskyi who fell before him.
