2011 WSOP – November Nine Set

Day 8 of the 2011 WSOP’s Main Event marked the last WSOP bout this summer. The final table (aka November Nine) has been set and the remaining players will only return in November to play down to the title.
22 players returned on the last day of the Main Event, all looking to squeeze into the final 9. Lars Bonding’s final table dreams were the first ones to go up in smoke. Bonding made the move holding the best possible pocket hand: pocket rockets. A flop of 3,7,4 was on the table when he pushed all-in, and the player who made the call was Konstantinos Mamaliadis, who – unfortunately for Bonding, had pocket 4s for a middle set. No Ace fell on the turn and the river and Bonding’s tournament life was over.

Chris Moore who had in fact begun the day with the smallest stack, managed to survive Bonding, and thus grab a few extra thousand dollars. Anton Makievskyi shoved all-in with A,10o and Moore made the call with pocket Ks. The flop brought an ace though, and the turn and the river failed to land another K for Moore, who was bounced.
A few hands later, Konstantinos Mamaliadis had the pocket Ks and shoved all-in on them against Gionni Demers’ A,5o. This time, the Kings held and Demers was sent to the rail too.

When the field whittled down to the final 18, Ben Lamb had popped up in the top 3. Down to the final two tables, the pace of the action was unrelenting. As the blinds escalated, the short-stacks were forced to commit one after the other. Kenny Shih was eliminated, followed by Sam Barnhart. Ryan Lenaghan found the way to the rail too, followed by Andrey Pateychuk. Scott Scwalich started off on the right foot, doubling up at Alexsandr Mozhnyakov’s expense, but he stumbled later on and lost most of his chips. He was eliminated a tad later by Phil Collins, whose A,10 bested his J,10.

Frank, a Freeze Out means that once you run out of chips you are out of the tournament and are not alloewd to buy back in. In some tournaments you will have a re-buy option where you may buy more chips if you are running low or run out completely!
